Nissan raises Nissan GT-R prices

Nissan raises Nissan GT-R prices

Nearly two months after the first of the Nissan GT-R supercars went on sale in the United States, the automaker is raising the price.

The sticker on the "base" Nissan GT-R  prices increases $6,990 to $77,840, and the premium model goes up $7,190 to $80,090. Prices include destination charges.

The changes take effect immediately, but the increases do not apply to orders in dealers' hands prior to Sept. 5.

Nissan cites the rising cost of raw materials as the reason for the price increase, but maintains its one of the "best supercar values" available.

"Since pricing on Nissan GT-R was announced about a year ago, the costs of raw materials have increased exponentially, negatively impacting the cost to manufacture the car," spokesman Darryll Harrison said in an e-mail.

The Nissan GT-Ris one of the most highly anticipated cars in recent memory, and regardless of the price increase, it's expected to fetch well above the sticker price on the open market.

The Nissan GT-R is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 that makes 480 hp and 434 lb-ft of torque.
